PEPR OQULUS
The OQuLus consortium brings together the expertise of French groups with internationally recognised results, ranging from semiconductor physics to integrated optics, for both digital encoding – discrete variables – and analogue encoding – continuous variables of information in quantum light. These French experts in photonics and quantum technologies are joining forces to build two NISQ (Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum) optical quantum computer prototypes and supply the hardware needed to achieve a full stack photonic quantum computer.
In discrete variables (DV), OQuLus is aiming for an 8-qubit prototype with quantum dots emitting single and entangled photons, coupled to reconfigurable computing circuits (photonic chips) in very low-loss silicon nitride.
In continuous variables (CV), time-frequency modes creating cluster states from 10 nodes to 10,000 nodes will be combined with mode-selective photon addition or subtraction to implement non-Gaussian operations.
Sources for DV computation and gates for CV computation with high potential for scaling also benefit from the dynamics of OQuLus.
The specific features of CV and DV implementations – experiments, technological specifications and even the software level – are incorporated into the OQuLus theoretical roadmap models.
